Where do I get help from?

There are a number of different agencies that exist to help people in your situation.

Most alcohol or drug services will provide access to a range of services to help family or friends:

Advice and information
You can get information and advice about alcohol and other drugs and their effects, in addition to what you can do to get help for the drinker/drug user, yourself and others.

Counselling
You may need to talk to someone in confidence about how you feel about the situation, how it affects the person, how it affects you and others. The counsellor will help you consider what your choices are and what you can do.

Support groups
You may want to meet with other family members or friends facing a similar situation to you. You can be there to support one another and share ideas about what works and doesn’t work for you. The group would normally be facilitated by a practitioner from that agency.

There are a growing number of services set up to support the families and friends of drinkers/drug users. They can support the drinker / drug user, family members and friends by meeting you on your own or all together.
